NASA to build a human base on the Moon; astronauts to stay year-round from 2032 onward, with JAXA also involved

NASA unveiled a plan to build a human outpost near the Moon’s south pole, aiming for continuous crewed presence from 2032 onward.

The roadmap calls for expanded landings by 2029, cargo deliveries and habitat setup from 2029 to 2032, and then permanent astronaut stays.

JAXA’s pressurized crew rover and lunar vehicles from Blue Origin, Astrobotic, Astrolab, Lunar Outpost, and Firefly Aerospace are part of the plan.

The project is meant to build lunar infrastructure for Artemis, test power and resource use, and support future Mars exploration.
