VeraCrypt, WireGuard among projects disrupted by Microsoft account suspensions

Microsoft suspended or terminated developer accounts used by open-source security projects, including VeraCrypt, WireGuard, and Windscribe.

VeraCrypt maintainer Mounir Idrassi said the loss of his account blocked Windows updates because he could no longer sign drivers or the bootloader.

Microsoft VP Scott Hanselman said the action was tied to a new partner verification requirement, but some developers say they were still closed out after completing verification.

The suspensions raise risks for widely used security and VPN tools that depend on Microsoft services for Windows releases and maintenance.
