Mysterious Structure Found Buried Beneath an Ancient Egyptian City

Archaeologists used Sentinel-1 radar and electrical resistivity tomography to probe the Kom C area at Tell el-Fara'in.

ERT surveys with 24 electrodes produced 1,332 readings that revealed a buried mudbrick structure about 25 by 20 meters, 3–6 meters deep.

Excavations dated the building to the Saite period (~2,600 years ago) and recovered amulets and ritual objects suggesting a religious use.

The team published the results in Acta Geophysica and plans further, deeper surveys to investigate additional buried features.
