World’s largest offshore wind converter with 6 billion kWh annual capacity heads to sea

China has sent the Haifeng Heart, the world’s largest offshore wind converter station, from Nantong to sea for installation near Yangjiang.

Built by ZPMC, the 2 GW platform will link the Qingzhou V and Qingzhou VII wind farms to the grid via high-voltage DC transmission.

The project is expected to deliver about 6 billion kWh of electricity a year and reduce power losses over long-distance transmission.

It marks several firsts in offshore wind power integration and supports China’s push to tap deep-water renewable energy.
