Huawei Thanks U.S. for Chip Curbs, Says it Accelerated China’s Semiconductor Rise

Huawei says U.S. chip sanctions and export controls have pushed Chinese firms to innovate faster and build more local semiconductor capacity.

Executive Xu Zhijun cited Huawei’s LogicFolding architecture and Ascend AI chips as examples of accelerated domestic innovation.

The restrictions on advanced U.S. chips have driven bigger investment in Chinese suppliers, packaging, manufacturing, and equipment.

Beijing is also tightening scrutiny of imported AI hardware, underscoring a broader push for chip self-sufficiency.
