Seven new hyperscale data centers to be built in the Netherlands

At least seven hyperscale data centers are currently under construction in the Netherlands, confirmed by the Dutch Datacentra Association (DDA).

Permits have already been granted for several sites, including Amsterdam and Haarlemmermeer; four of the approved centers will be in Haarlemmermeer.

Four additional hyperscale projects remain in the planning phase and require a decision from D66 Minister Boekholt‑O’Sullivan before permits are issued.

Once completed, the Netherlands will have at least ten hyperscale data centers (three are already used by Microsoft and Google); sites may cover up to 10 hectares and have power connections up to 70 MW.

There is opposition from residents and the House of Representatives, with resistance driven in part by concerns about strain on the power grid.
