Writers and critics announce the "100 greatest novels of all time"

The Guardian published a ranked list of the 100 best novels of all time.

The ranking was compiled from votes by more than 170 novelists, critics, and scholars.

George Eliot’s Middlemarch took the top spot.

The list offers a snapshot of today’s literary canon and critical taste.
