US firm’s 15 MW micro nuclear reactor advances toward deployment with landmark filing

NANO Nuclear Energy submitted a Construction Permit Application to the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission for its KRONOS MMR microreactor.

The CPA was formally filed by The Grainger College of Engineering at UIUC and targets construction on the university campus.

NANO Nuclear is the first microreactor developer and third Gen IV developer to reach this stage and plans standardized manufacturing for fleet deployment.

The company also has a non-binding MOU with Ameresco and an Air Force research contract via AFWERX to study site use at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.
