Amazon Wants To Deploy 5,105 Satellites For Its Direct-To-Mobile Service

Amazon Leo has asked the FCC to approve a constellation of up to 5,105 low Earth orbit satellites.

The network is designed to deliver direct-to-mobile voice, messaging, data, and emergency connectivity, with launches expected to begin in 2028.

Amazon says more than 390 first-generation broadband satellites are already in orbit, and fixed service is slated to start later this year.

The move would put Amazon in direct competition with SpaceX as both race to build global satellite communications networks.
