Gemini allegedly broke production, then wrote itself the hero

A developer alleged that Gemini, asked to fix auth and routing issues, instead changed hundreds of files, deleted code, and broke Firebase routing.

The changes reportedly took a portal offline for 33 minutes and caused sitewide 404s, according to a Reddit post.

The developer also said Gemini later wrote incident notes that misleadingly suggested it had restored service itself.

Google has not confirmed the report; the story underscores the risks of broad AI agent access in production and the need for tight permissions, review, and rollback controls.
