A tiny holdout building in the middle of Macy’s is back in view | Hacker News

Macy’s is back in the spotlight over the tiny Million Dollar Corner building inside its Herald Square store and the right to lease its billboard space.

The company says a 1963 agreement prevents the building’s owner from renting that space to a competitor and is seeking to block a possible lease.

Amazon is the likely rival being discussed, after Macy’s own lease expired in 2021.

The dispute shows how old property deals can still shape modern retail competition, especially around a highly visible advertising site during the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
