SoftBank also launches "Starlink Direct"; enables communication even out of coverage, supports LINE, PayPay, Yahoo! Maps and more

SoftBank launched “SoftBank Starlink Direct” on April 10, enabling smartphones to connect directly to Starlink satellites.

When the sky is visible, users can send SMS, receive emergency alerts, and use some supported apps even outside mobile coverage.

The service is available on SoftBank, Y!mobile, and LINEMO, with apps like LINE and PayPay to be added gradually.

It could improve communication in mountains, remote islands, offshore areas, and during disasters, where normal cellular signals are unavailable.
