Stone slab found in the yard of a U.S. home turns out to be a tombstone of an ancient Roman sailor from about 1,900 years ago

A marble slab found in a New Orleans backyard has been identified as the tombstone of Sextus Congenius Verus, a Roman navy sailor from the 2nd century.

The artifact had been missing from a museum in Civitavecchia, Italy, and U.S. authorities, including the FBI, are now arranging its return.

The former homeowner said the stone had been used as garden decoration after moving with the family from elsewhere.
