We have small and giant black holes, but the intermediate ones are nowhere to be found. Now scientists have devised a method to search for them and already have two candidates

Chinese scientists searched CHIME fast radio burst data for gravitational microlensing signatures and found two events consistent with intermediate-mass black holes.

The candidates show no obvious nearby galaxies, strengthening the case that compact dark objects may be responsible.

If confirmed, the result could help solve the long-standing hunt for intermediate-mass black holes and offer clues about primordial black holes and dark matter.
