US defense contractor who sold hacking tools to Russian broker ordered to pay $10M to former employers

Former L3Harris Trenchant chief Peter Williams must pay $10 million in restitution after admitting he stole cyber exploits and surveillance tools.

He previously was ordered to pay $1.3 million and is already serving a prison sentence.

Prosecutors say the stolen hacking tools were sold to Operation Zero, a Russian exploit broker.

The case highlights how offensive cyber tools from a defense contractor can be diverted to hostile actors and threaten government and Five Eyes networks.
