World’s largest offshore converter to deliver 6 billion kWh of clean power a year

China has installed a record offshore converter station off Guangdong to deliver wind power from offshore farms to the mainland grid.

The 500-kV, 2,000-MW facility is in final cable-laying and testing work and is expected to produce about 6 billion kWh of clean electricity a year.

The project is a major step for large-scale offshore wind transmission and sets new engineering records.

It could cut carbon emissions by nearly 5 million metric tons annually by moving more renewable power onto China’s grid.
