Modernizing US nuclear fuel cycle: US picks potential host states for innovation campuses

The U.S. Department of Energy picked Utah, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Idaho to explore hosting new Nuclear Lifecycle Innovation Campuses.

The campuses would span the nuclear fuel cycle, including fuel fabrication, enrichment, reprocessing and disposal, with room for advanced reactors, manufacturing and data centers.

DOE says the effort could draw major private investment, create jobs and generate tax revenue while expanding U.S. nuclear fuel production.

The initiative is aimed at rebuilding parts of the domestic nuclear supply chain and reducing reliance on foreign fuel sources.
