The Google Pixel's Now Playing app may bring back a feature we thought was gone

Google updated the Now Playing app to version 2026.03.24.x, replacing 2026.03.02.x.

The update is not widely available yet and 9to5Google found no visible changes, suggesting backend fixes.

A Reddit user reported the return of the lock screen "Tap to see what's playing" prompt, which previously disappeared when Now Playing became an app.

Now Playing no longer posts quiet notifications for identified tracks and instead offers a Quick Settings 2x1 tile; only a 1x1 history widget exists.
