Rare “Super-Jupiter” Discovered on an Extraordinary 180-Day Orbit

Researchers discovered NGTS-38 b, a rare super-Jupiter exoplanet.

It is about 8% wider than Jupiter and nearly five times as massive, with a 180-day orbit.

Follow-up observations from TESS and the Next Generation Transit Survey confirmed a second transit and its orbital properties.

Because long-period giant planets are hard to find, the discovery shows transit searches can reach farther-out worlds and help refine methods for Earth-like planets.
