Google rolls out fake call detection to protect against AI deepfake impersonation scams

Google is rolling out fake call detection in Phone by Google on Android 12+ devices, starting with Pixel phones and expanding globally this month.

The on-by-default feature looks for a silent device confirmation signal and warns users if a supposedly trusted contact may be spoofed or impersonated.

Google says the system is built on RCS and could eventually be used by other apps and companies.

The move is aimed at reducing fraud from AI voice deepfakes and caller ID spoofing in impersonation scams.
