March 20 ChatGPT outage: Here’s what happened

OpenAI took ChatGPT offline to fix a privacy bug tied to an open-source library.

The issue let some active users see other users’ chat titles and, in some cases, the first message in a new chat.

OpenAI also said limited billing information may have been exposed for about 1.2% of ChatGPT Plus subscribers during a nine-hour window.

The company patched the bug, restored ChatGPT and chat history, and notified affected users; full credit card numbers were not exposed.
