Google Photos finally lets you turn off that annoying Shimmer feature

Google Photos has rolled out an update with a new Settings > Preferences toggle to turn off the Shimmer effect.

Shimmer had been enabled by default, so users can now disable a visual effect many found distracting.

The Android app also adds a camera thumbnail option for quickly choosing fresh images in AI creation tools like Remix.

This makes it easier to start AI photo edits with newly captured photos instead of digging through the gallery.
