OpenAI Reportedly Working on an AI Smartphone to Rival iPhone

OpenAI is reportedly developing an AI smartphone, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

The plan reportedly includes MediaTek and Qualcomm as chip partners, with Luxshare as the exclusive manufacturer.

The phone is aimed at enabling real-time AI agents by continuously capturing user context.

That would push OpenAI deeper into consumer hardware and could position it as a direct iPhone rival.

The report also suggests OpenAI may prioritize a fully integrated hardware-software stack over standalone AI accessories.
