WhatCable is a free, open-source macOS menu bar app that shows what a connected USB-C cable can actually do.

It reads cable details already available to the system and presents supported charging, data speed, display, and Thunderbolt features in plain language.

The app helps users avoid assuming all USB-C cables are equivalent, since visually similar cables can have very different capabilities.
