China Swarm Drones Achieve First Full 3D Typhoon Observation: Bee Colony Drone Array Captures Complete Typhoon Landfall Process From Multiple Altitudes Simultaneously

China completed its first full 3D typhoon observation using a coordinated drone swarm during Typhoon Hongxia’s landfall.

Multiple sensor-equipped drones flew at different altitudes at the same time, collecting temperature, humidity, wind, and turbulence data.

The test showed that coordinated swarms can gather dense in-situ data inside dangerous storms and improve forecasting.

It also validated drone performance in extreme weather, supporting broader use in disaster response and severe-weather operations.
