New York’s food carts are going electric in clean air trial

New York City has launched a six-month pilot to replace gasoline generators on food carts with battery-powered energy systems.

The program equips 10 licensed vendors with rechargeable units to reduce air pollution and street noise while keeping carts running.

Officials will use the pilot to test charging logistics and financing models for wider adoption.

If successful, the effort could offer a scalable clean-energy model for thousands of street vendors and other cities.
