Gmail lets all U.S. users change their address usernames, Japan may follow

Google announced on March 31 that U.S. users can now change the username portion of their Gmail address.

The address-change feature began rolling out in late 2025 and is being deployed globally in stages.

Japan does not yet have the feature despite help pages showing the steps.

After changing an address, the old address remains as a secondary email and continues to receive mail and allow logins.

Users can change usernames once every 12 months up to three times and can restore the original address anytime with a 30-day restriction on creating a new address.
