China tests ultra-fast EV battery that charges to 70% in 3 minutes and 41 seconds

Hongqi, the luxury brand of China FAW Group, unveiled test results for an ultra-fast-charging EV battery prototype.

The pack reportedly charges from 10% to 70% in 3 minutes and 41 seconds, and reaches 97% in just over 8 minutes.

It uses a 12C peak charging rate, a custom electrolyte, a carbon-coated anode, and adaptive liquid cooling to control heat.

The battery is still a prototype with no production timeline, but it could set a new benchmark in China’s EV market.
