We discovered the first three-headed asteroid ever seen. And it has its own moon too

Astronomers have identified asteroid 44 Nysa as the first known three-lobed asteroid.

Observations from the Large Binocular Telescope and the Very Large Telescope showed that Nysa has three lobes, not two.

The same study also confirmed a previously suspected small moon orbiting the asteroid.

The finding improves understanding of asteroid shapes, formation, and the origins of E-type asteroids and inner-planet building blocks.
