Rice grain-sized solid-state battery could power next-gen smart lenses, wearables

XPANCEO and ITEN unveiled a rice grain-sized solid-state microbattery for smart contact lenses and other tiny wearables.

The battery uses fully ceramic electrodes with a mesoporous structure and no liquid electrolyte, helping reduce leak, fire, and overheating risks.

Its compact, stable onboard power could remove a major barrier for eye-worn devices and support features like AR and health monitoring.
