Mr. Wonderful's AI data center in Utah could consume 2x more power than the whole state

Utah officials gave preliminary approval to Kevin O’Leary’s Stratos AI data center plan, which would include an on-site power plant.

The project could consume nearly 9 gigawatts, making it one of the largest power-hungry data center proposals in the U.S.

Final approval is still pending from Box Elder County, and the plan is already drawing scrutiny over grid strain and subsidies.

The proposal underscores the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure and the enormous energy demands behind it.
