US neighbor could gain domestic engine overhaul capability for future fighters

GE Aerospace and Magellan Aerospace signed an MOU to build Canadian MRO capability for the F414 engine used in Saab’s JAS 39 Gripen E.

The plan depends on Canada choosing the Gripen E as the Royal Canadian Air Force’s next fighter.

If approved, Canada could maintain the engine domestically, improving readiness and reducing reliance on overseas repair networks.

The project could also keep aerospace jobs and technical expertise in Canada, including at the Mississauga industrial base.
