New Zealand moves to allow plug-in solar panels... rooftop approvals cut from 3 months to 6 days

New Zealand’s regulators have reviewed rules for residential and small-scale solar, recommending legalization of plug-in solar and simpler rooftop solar approvals.

The proposal would cut approval times for standard home systems from about three months to six days, and for farms and small businesses from up to six months to one month.

The changes could expand access for renters and apartment residents while lowering installation costs and wait times, speeding up solar adoption.

The government estimates the reforms could deliver tens of millions of New Zealand dollars in net benefits over the next decade.
