The creator of Roomba is back with a furry robot companion

iRobot founder Colin Angle has launched Familiar Machines & Magic and unveiled Ami, a dog-sized companion robot.

Ami is a non-humanoid robotic pet that uses on-device generative AI and nonverbal behavior to build relationships with users.

The first product is aimed at companionship and home interaction, with a launch planned for next year at the earliest.

The move highlights a shift in consumer robotics from utility-focused devices toward emotionally aware AI companions, with possible eldercare and family support use cases.
