AMD Goes Bigger With EPYC Venice and Verano, with New SP7 and SP8 Sockets Dwarfing Today’s SP5 and SP6 Platforms

AMD’s next EPYC platforms, Venice and Verano, are set to use larger SP7 and SP8 sockets than today’s SP5 and SP6 designs.

The new sockets are expected to bring more DDR5 memory channels, faster memory support, and MRDIMM options for higher bandwidth.

AMD is also targeting extensive PCIe Gen 6 connectivity, with CXL 3.1 support aimed at expanding server I/O.

The platform shift points to bigger gains in core count, memory capacity, and data center performance for enterprise systems.
