Code in iOS 27 lets Apple deactivate leased iPhones, report says

A report says iOS 27 beta code includes a “Restricted Mode” that could limit delinquent iPhones to basic apps and widgets.

It also points to a “Partner Finance Lock” designed to stop unpaid devices from being resold, with 9to5Mac and Mark Gurman cited in the reporting.

If shipped, Apple and financing partners could remotely restrict or effectively disable leased iPhones after missed payments.

The idea raises consumer-rights and device-control concerns, especially for Apple Upgrade and financing services like Klarna.
