Anthropic's Opus 5 is about token efficiency, not a capability leap

Anthropic released Opus 5 as a coding-focused model that emphasizes token efficiency and lower cost.

It performs close to the company’s top coding model at about half the cost, but only shows incremental benchmark gains.

The upgrade does not appear to be a major leap in agentic coding ability versus prior versions or rivals.

Anthropic also reduced cybersecurity-focused training, which leaves the model weaker on exploitation tasks.
