Wikipedia Bans AI-Generated Article Content After Editor Vote

English Wikipedia editors voted 40-to-2 to heavily restrict the use of large language models for article content.

The new policy bans LLMs from generating or rewriting articles while allowing limited copyedit and translation assistance with human verification.

Wikimedia signed deals with major AI companies in January to recoup training costs, and it previously halted AI-generated summaries after community pushback.
