World’s largest tokamak ITER installs 1,100-ton core module to confine fusion plasma

ITER completed a 30-hour lift on July 28 to place the sixth 1,100-ton tokamak sector module into the reactor pit.

The move brings about two-thirds of the central vacuum vessel assembly into position, months ahead of schedule.

The milestone advances full torus assembly, a key step toward demonstrating fusion plasma confinement at industrial scale.

It also highlights coordination across ITER partners, including South Korea and France.
