Astronauts recall the "sci-fi" experience of flying in the shadow of the Moon

Four astronauts aboard NASA’s Orion were near the end of a nine-day Artemis II mission.

They were heading for reentry and a Pacific Ocean splashdown on Friday evening.

After flying beyond the Moon, the crew had traveled more than a quarter-million miles from home.

Soon after reaching their closest point to the Moon, about 4,000 miles away, they entered a 40-minute radio blackout and flew through the Moon’s shadow.

Reid Wiseman said the crew took three or four minutes to reflect, and they shared maple cookies from Jeremy Hansen.
