US Navy’s destroyers to get big boost with generator supplier’s expansion push

General Tool Company expanded its Evendale, Ohio plant to boost production of Rolls-Royce AG9160RF generator sets for the U.S. Navy.

Output rose from enough power systems for two Flight III Arleigh Burke-class destroyers a year to three.

The generator set helps supply the electrical demand of the destroyers’ advanced combat systems, including the AN/SPY-6 radar.

The added capacity eases a bottleneck in the naval industrial base and supports shipbuilders like Bath Iron Works and Ingalls.
