Bilbao and Vitoria were very excited about their new trams. Until they noticed a small detail: 2.4 centimeters

The new Euskotren trams for Bilbao and Vitoria are 2.4 cm wider than expected, creating clearance problems in some sections.

In those spots, the trams cannot pass each other safely, so one must stop before they meet.

Built by CAF, the issue could delay a tens-of-millions-of-euros fleet renewal backed by Euskotren and Euskal Trenbide Sarea.

A station in Vitoria may also have accessibility problems for wheelchair users because of the design.
