Politicians Are Spending More Money on Security as They Increasingly Become Targets

Campaigns and PACs spent more than five times as much on security in the 2024 cycle as before the 2016 election, according to a new report.

Spending jumped in digital protection and home security as threats against public servants and candidates increased nationwide.

The trend is prompting states to revisit election laws so campaign funds can cover security for offices, homes, and personal data.

Utah is among the states updating rules to explicitly allow campaign money for security-related expenses.
