The Moon Astronauts Just Broke the Record for the Farthest Any Human Has Ever Traveled From Earth

NASA’s Artemis 2 crew set a new human distance record, reaching 252,752 miles from Earth during a lunar flyby.

The four astronauts passed behind the Moon’s far side and briefly lost radio contact, as expected in the operation.

The mission broke Apollo 13’s long-standing 1970 record for the farthest humans have traveled from Earth.

Artemis 2 is also collecting radiation data to support future deep-space missions and eventual Moon landings.
