Apple Subpoenas Samsung in South Korea Over DOJ Antitrust Case

Apple asked a U.S. court to seek Samsung records from South Korea under the Hague Evidence Convention.

The request is part of discovery in the DOJ antitrust case after Apple's bid to dismiss the suit failed.

The DOJ filed the case against Apple in March 2024, and the complaints say Apple used App Store rules, developer restrictions, and control of key iPhone features to limit competition.

Samsung is named as Apple's closest smartphone competitor; Samsung Electronics America declined to produce records, saying the documents are held by its South Korean parent.

Apple wants market research, sales data, financial statements, consumer switching analyses, Galaxy Store agreements, Samsung Pay, messaging app, super app, and digital wallet fee documents, and points to Smart Switch as evidence Samsung may hold switching data.
