Your iPhone might soon lock itself the moment someone snatches it from your hand

Apple is reportedly developing a new iPhone theft-detection feature that can automatically lock the device if it appears to be snatched from a user’s hand.

The system may combine motion data, Apple Watch proximity, and familiar-location checks to spot suspicious theft patterns.

If accurate, the feature would help prevent thieves from quickly accessing an unlocked iPhone’s data after a grab-and-run.

It would add to Apple’s existing protections such as Find My, Activation Lock, and Stolen Device Protection, possibly arriving in iOS 27 or showing up at WWDC 2026.
