U.S. Urgently Needs Domestic Enriched Uranium As Full Russian Ban Nears

The U.S. is speeding up uranium enrichment licensing, reviews, and federal funding to build domestic capacity.

This push is meant to cut reliance on Russian and other foreign uranium before the 2028 import ban fully takes effect.

DOE grant awards and NRC actions are supporting projects from established firms and new entrants, including work in Tennessee.

The goal is to secure reactor fuel supplies, strengthen energy security, and support low-enriched uranium and HALEU production.
