Geology professor Ana Crespo Blanc on the Granada earthquakes: “In that respect, it is better to have a house in the Albaicín than in the Zaidín”

A geologist at the University of Granada said the recent tremors in the province are part of a seismic swarm linked to small faults, not a sign of a major earthquake.

She stressed that Granada has experienced destructive quakes in the past, but those were tied to larger faults and more vulnerable buildings.

Current risk is considered lower thanks to better construction quality and the expected behavior of the active faults.

The expert’s remarks aim to calm concern while putting the recent shaking in historical and geological context.
