Government to introduce the next My Number Card in fiscal 2029, with a refreshed design and changes to the information printed on the card face

Japan’s Digital Agency plans a redesigned next-generation My Number Card for fiscal 2029.

The new card would strengthen anti-counterfeit measures, hide gender data from the front, change birthdate formatting, reduce PINs, and extend electronic certificate validity.

The agency also aims to add AI features to the MyNa Portal and build MCP-compatible infrastructure by fiscal 2027.

The overhaul is meant to improve security, readability, and usability while expanding access to digital government services.
