New retro console smashes annual target after just 24 hours of pre-orders

Plaion and SNK’s Neo Geo AES+ retro console launched at $180 and drew enough paid preorders in 24 hours to beat its full-year sales target.

Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors said demand was far beyond expectations, raising the chance of follow-up plans for the hardware.

The affordable HDMI-equipped console taps strong nostalgia for classic SNK titles like Metal Slug, The King of Fighters 2002, and Garou: Mark of the Wolves.

The preorder surge suggests there is still a sizable market for retro hardware and could encourage more revived consoles and re-releases.
